Zagrebački komorni orkestar

Zagrebački komorni orkestar utemeljen je 1937. godine. Osnovao ga je Rudolf Matz okupivši dvadesetak ponajboljih instrumentalista. Orkestar odlikuju jedinstveno gledanje na sve tehničke i interpretativne komorno - muzičke probleme jer gotovo svi članovi orkestra bili su učenici Vaclava Humla koji je nadgledao rad orkestra. Kritike u zemlji i inozemstvu govore o posebnom uspjehu ovog gudačkog tijela. Zagrebačkim komornim orkestrom dirigiraju Lovro Matačić, Milan Sachs i Rudolf Matz.

2004. godine ZKO ponovno organizira Mladen Dervenkar i Marko Mađarić. THE ZAGREB CHAMBER ORCHESTRA (ZKO) – founded in 1937

The Zagreb Chamber Orchestra was founded by Rudolf Matz, who assembled around twenty outstanding instrumentalists. The orchestra was characterized by its unique approach to technical and interpretational chamber music issues, since almost all the orchestra members were students of Vaclav Huml, the founder of the Zagreb School of Violin, who supervised the Orchestra’s work. Positive reviews, both home and abroad, testify to the huge success of the string ensemble. The conductors of the Zagreb Chamber Orchestra were Lovro Matačić, Milan Sachs and Rudolf Matz. Even Bruno Walter once had a trial with the orchestra. The ZKO was active until 1941, after which the majority of its members were invited by Zagreb Radio and Television to join an ensemble founded in 1955 by Antonio Janigro under the name of the Zagreb Soloists.

In 2004, the ZKO was re-established by Mladen Dervenkar and Marko Mađarić. From 2004 to 2006, the orchestra was active under the leadership of the prominent American violin player Diana Pascal. Since 2006, it is has been led by the renowned Croatian violinist Tonko Ninić, who became a member of the Zagreb Soloist ensemble in 1957, acting as its concert master and Artistic Director between 1973 and 1997, performing more than 2,500 concerts with it around the globe. The Russian violin virtuoso Maxim Fedotov is ZKO’s external associate and Artistic Director.

The orchestra’s permanent members comprise 15 young professional musicians who all graduated from the Zagreb Music Academy. The Zagreb Chamber Orchestra’s repertoire includes works of Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern music by both Croatian and international composers.

Apart from the permanent members, famous soloists from the Croatian and international music stage participate in the Orchestra’s productions. These include Maxim Fedotov, Monika Leskovar, Vlasta Gyura, Luz Leskowitz, Diane Pascal, Galina Petrova, Tonko Ninić, Ruben Dalibaltayan, Francois Weigel, Elena Denisova, Alexei Kornienk, Dora and Nora Romanoff Schwarzberg, Sandro De Palma and others.

Besides its main activities, the objective of the Zagreb Chamber Orchestra is to promote young Croatian musicians and to motivate youngsters to become involved in the musical arts and culture.

The many years of the ZKO’s work have been brought together with the establishment of the MUSICA MAXIMA Festival under the artistic leadership of Maxim Fedotov, Chief Conductor of the Moscow City Symphony Orchestra (the Russian Philharmonic).
